It began as a bold and daring dream with a season featuring two productions which ran for 11 weeks and employed 10 artists. Today, the dream lives on in seasons spanning 9 months with 5 productions each playing for several weeks and, in some cases, several months. A dedicated group of artist/administrators make up the company which is now composed of resident ensemble members who have purchased homes in the area, a company of Apprentice Artists, and seasonal company members who serve to round out the company.
This season, we had cause to celebrate the fifth anniversary of a multi-million dollar “new home” after 19 years producing in The St. Mane Theatre. The new facility truly gives the Commonweal room to grow and solidify her roots in SE Minnesota.
Twenty-five years of putting incredibly valuable stories onstage in Lanesboro is cause for celebration. That is exactly what we are planning to do in 2013. Our 25th Season will be one of special events and celebrations and you will want to plan ahead now to be a part of those. From Gala Openings to staged readings of some of the Commonweal’s most popular past works, readings of new works and one very special night in the theatre, take it from me, you will not want to miss out on any of the festivities. You are more than simply an audience to us. You are our best friends and we cannot wait to celebrate Season 25 at the Commonweal along with you.
